The Swedish company behind Spotify has developed a lighter version of its music streaming application to allow more people to listen to music at any time.
Called Spotify Lite, this lighter version of the classic Spotify is initially being developed for emerging markets where networks are often weaker and coverage is less extensive than here. However, the music app is also finding its audience in Europe. The interface of Spotify Lite has been simplified compared to the standard version, but remains intuitive. Some features have been removed to save storage space on the phone, in order to avoid overloading the internal memory. The application now only takes up 10 MB of space, instead of the 27 MB required by the standard version. It's still possible to listen to favourite tracks, random tracks and create playlists.
Spotify Lite is a great alternative when the connection is weak, or the phone plan is not expandable. You can still listen to millions of tracks for free and save money on your plan. In addition, there's the option to limit data consumption by customising it. Spotify Lite is currently only available on Android, and can be downloaded for free from a PC or mobile phone, compatible with Windows.

Reply from Spotify Ltd. (2021-12-01)Hey Arnaud,
Thanks for getting in touch. We understand that you'd like to get updates regarding Spotify Lite. No worries we'll check this for you.
At Spotify, we routinely conduct a number of tests in an effort to improve our user experience. Some of those tests end up paving the path for our broader user experience and others serve only as an important learning. We aren’t going to comment on specific tests at this time.
As of the moment, Spotify Lite is only available for Android devices in specific markets.
While we’re focused on Android phones for the time being, our ambition is to be available everywhere our users are looking to enjoy music.
Give us a shout if you need anything else.
All the best,
Rick
