Developed under the name Bokilur in 2005, the app was finally launched in 2009 to become Storytel. It was first offered in a few European countries such as Norway, Denmark, Poland, the Netherlands and then Finland. Later, other countries were able to access it in their languages, but mostly in English. Run by Jonas Tellander, Storytel is present in 20 countries and has attracted more than one million subscribers.
